Demobilising British soldiers about to board steamer at Cologne
Here we see a group of British soldiers from the Army of the Rhine waiting to board a steamer at Cologne (probably in 1919), the first stage of their voyage back home to demobilise. The Army of the Rhine originally used men who were already at the front, but during 1919 a number of battalions of 'young soldiers', who had been in Britain at the end of the war, replaced them.
