Demobilising Squadron Wagons and Heavy Horses on the sale ground, c.1919
Here we see a number of Squadron Wagons, being pulled by Shire Horses, American Horses and Mules, on a sale ground, during the massive demobilisation effort of 1919. Sadly relatively few of the horses that had survived the war survived the peace, with older and ill horses being put down and many younger horses being sold for meat.
