Officers of London Motor Volunteer Corps, c.1917-18

Here we see the officers of the City of London Motor Volunteer Corps. The high status of many volunteers is demonstrated by the front row, with Captain the Right Honourable Earl of Cottenham on the left (honorary treasurer), and Captain the Right Honourable Earl of Chesterfield fourth on the front row. At the time the Ninth Earl of Chesterfield was serving as Master of the Horse in the Royal Household

This picture must date to after 9 August 1917 when Charles Reginald Freemantle (centre of front row) was promoted from temporary lieutenant to temporary major and commander of Group 'B' of the City of London Motor Volunteer Corps.
