Bomb Damage at Chelsea Hospital, 1918
Here we see damage caused to the north-east wing of Chelsea Hospital by one of only a handful of 1,000kg bombs dropped on London during the First World War. This damage was caused during a raid on the night of 16-17 February 1918 by a force of Zeppelin-Staaken R.VIs. Five people were killed. The building was rebuilt in 1921, damaged again by a V-2 in 1945 and rebuilt again in the 1960s.
