Canadian Hospital at Etaples bombed, May 1918
This aerial photograph shows the damaged caused to one of the Canadian military hospitals at Etaples during a German bombing raid on the night of 30-31 May 1918. Unsurprisingly the Allies claimed this was a deliberate German attrocity, but Etaples was the site of a massive British military camp, with the hospitals right next to a massive training camp. The area was thus a valid target, and the red cross markings on the hospital buildings unlikely to be visible at night.
