British Infantry outside former Turkish HQ, Kirkuk
Here we see British troops outside the former Turkish HQ in Kirkuk, now in Kurdish northern Iraq but then in Ottoman Mesopotamia. The city was briefly occupied in May 1918, but the Mesopotamian campaign was a sideshow by 1918 and troops were withdrawn to support the main battle in Palestine. Kirkuk was reoccupied by the British after the Ottoman surrender.
