Bomb Damage on the Embankment, 4-5 September 1917
Here we see damage caused to the Embankment by a German 50kg bomb during a raid on the night of 4-5 September 1917. Splinters damaged the Sphinx and Cleopatra's Needle, but more damage was done to nearby gas and water mains and electricty cables, see at the right.
