Auby Zinc Works, 1919
Here we see the Zinc works at Auby, near Douai, after the Germans retreated from the area late in 1918. As late as 1 October 1918 the buildings were intact, but the retreating Germans destroyed any machinery they couldn't remove and toppled the thirty-three chimneys.
