AMC Carnarvon Castle from the left
Here we see the auxiliary cruiser AMC Carnarvon Castle in her wartime configuration, with her forward dummy funnel removed and eight 6in guns installed. She clashed with the German auxiliary cruiser Thor in December 1939, but both ships survived the five hour battle. In December 1943 she was decommissioned as a cruiser, and in 1944 she became a troop ship.
