Here we see Field Marshal Harold Alexander, commander of the Allied ground forces in Italy (15th Army Group) from the invasion of Sicily until December 1944, when he became Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces HQ in the Mediterranean. Although the Italian campaign was often controversial, Alexander was a capable leader of coalition forces, and was able to keep the Americans, British and many Allied contingents working together throughout the long campaign.
