USS Yorktown (CV-5) under attack, Midway
Here we see USS Yorktown (CV-5) under Japanese air attack during the battle of Midway. At least one aircraft can be seen (as a small black line) just to the right of the carrier. This picture comes from a series of very similar shots showing the air attacks on the Yorktown, which caused damage that left her vulnerable to the submarine attack that sank her after the battle was over.
