USS West Virginia (BB-48), Tennessee (BB-43) and Arizona (BB-39), Pearl Harbor
Here we see the battleships USS West Virginia (BB-48), Tennessee (BB-43) and Arizona (BB-39) after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The West Virginia sank in shallow water - here you can see her deck very close to the water level, but was refloated, repaired, and returned to service in mid 1944.
Tennessee was less badly damaged, and is clearly still afloat here. She was able to depart for the US West Coast on 20 December, and was repaired by the end of February 1942. The Arizona was the worst hit of the US battleships, and exploded when a bomb hit one of her magazines. 1,177 of her crew were killed and she was never raised.
