USS Tucker (DD-374) being towed

USS Tucker (DD-374) being towed
Here we see the Mahan class destroyer USS Tucker (DD-374) being towed by tug YP-346 after hitting an American mine on 3 August 1942 while heading to Espiritu Santo. The minefield had only been laid on the previous day, and the Tucker had not yet been informed of it. The mine broke the destroyer's back, as can be seen here with the two halves at different angles - with this much damage it's impressive that she stayed afloat until the following day.
