Here we see the American destroyer USS Shaw (DD-68) painted in dazzle camouflage to work with the Royal Navy in 1917-18, when it operated from southern Ireland against the U-boats.

Paints a picture of a very different battle to the more familiar one from the Second World War, with the key difference being the lack of any way to detect a submerged U-boat, leading to very heavy shipping losses.
