USAT Meigs burning at Darwin, 1942
Here we see the US Army Troopship Meigs on fire after being hit during the Japanese raid on Darwin on 19 February 1942. The Meigs had recently returned from a failed attempt to reinforce the troops on Timor, but luckily the troops involved were no longer onboard, and only one of her crew of 66 was killed. The Meigs herself sank.
