Airship R.34 on the Ground
Here we see one of the most succesful British airships, the R.34, on the ground. R.34 was the first aircraft to cross the Atlantic from east to west, in July 1919, only a couple of weeks after Alcock and Brown's first non-stop west to east flight. R.34 then made the return flight, making her the first aircraft to cross the Atlantic in both directions. She was badly damaged after crashing into a hill in the North York Moors in 1921 and then having to spend a storm night moored outside because the weather was too bad to get her back into her shed, and scrapped.
