M4A3 (76mm) Sherman at Gurzenich, December 1944
Here we see a rear view of an M4A3(76) Sherman firing between buildings at Gurzenich in the Rhineland in December 1944. Gurzenich is a village on the west bank of the River Rur, opposite the town of Duren on the east bank. The rear grill that can be seen below the rear armour was designed to reduce the amount of dust the tank produced. This version of the Sherman used a new T23 Turret, and one of the turret hatches can be seen in the open position.
