US troops moving 75mm shells, Mt Tambu, 1943
Here we see American troops moving 75mm shells from an ammo dump to the firing position for a 75mm Pack Howitzer M1 on Mount Tambu, New Guinea. A battery of these mountain guns were moved across New Guinea to attack Japanese positions around Mount Tambu, during the Allied advance towards Lau and Salamaua. This appears to be one of a series of photos taken on 15 August 1943.
