23-class Airship and SS class blimp of First World War
Here we see two British airships of the First World War, with a 23-class rigid airship in the centre left and an SS type blimp below and to the right. The 23-class was only ever used for training, but did lead to later, more advanced models. It can be told apart from those by the long keel corridor under the main envelop, with a door and cluster of windows in the centre. A variety of SS types were built, using different aircraft fuselages or purpose built gondolas to hold the crew below the non-rigid envelop.
