Summons for Medical, 12 December 1940 - Back
The back of a summons to a medical, the first step on the road to being enlisted in the Armed Forces. The text under the fold reads "..officer at the Medical Board or the office which issued this notice. Arrangement should be made wherever possible to avoid the loss of a full day". There is a certain irony to the care being taken to reduce the disruption caused by a medical that would whisk Lawrence Smith off to India for most of the war.
