Second Battle of the Aisne

Start of the infantry attack at the Second Battle of the Aisne, with the Sixth Army (Mangin) and Fifth Army (Mazel) involved in the first attack. The French take the lightly defended first German line, but struggle against the second line.

Schneider CA.1 Char d'Assault, the first French tank design, makes its combat debut at Berry-au-Bac, when eight companies of tanks with 132 CA.1s support the Fifth Army attack on the Chemin des Dames.
