This is the fourth book in a series looking at the winners of the Knight's Cross. This volume looks at the highest grade of the Knight's Cross, the Knight's Cross with Oak-Leaves, Swords and Diamonds. The Diamonds to the Knight's Cross was only awarded twenty-seven times during the Second World War, and so Williamson is able to include full biographies of all of them.
The result is a book that contains an interesting cross section of German activity during the war, with biographies of fighter aces, U-Boat commanders, generals and field marshals. This is an unusual mix for a single volume work, and makes for an interesting and varied read.
