Spitfire in Action, Jerry Scutts

Spitfire in Action, Jerry Scutts

This is something of a misleading title. The Spitfire went through so many versions during its production life that there is very little space left in a book of this size to look at the actual combat record of the Spitfire. Instead what we get is a very good account of the development of the Spitfire, from the prototype, through the main wartime version to the post war Mk 24 and Seafires.

The technical descriptions are clear and well supported by the excellent illustrations, both contemporary photographs, and a large number of well drawn plans. This is a very good short introduction to the complex story of the Spitfire as it evolved over nearly twenty years.
