This account of the Boxer Rebellion is based on first hand accounts of the rebellion left by many of the western diplomats and missionaries who were trapped in Peking by the Boxers. This book gives a vivid impression of life inside the diplomatic quarter of Peking.
If the book has a weakness, it is that it is too reliant on British and American sources, which tends to reduce the importance of the other nationalities involved.
