Stargrave: The Last Prospector, Joseph A. McCullough

The core of this expansion to the Stargrave system is a ten scenario campaign, set around the hunt for a mysterious ‘big find’, somewhere in an isolated star system. Unlike most campaigns, eight of these scenarios are designed to be played in whatever order the players want. Each player ends up building up their own standing with each of the main six factions, which will then go on to impact on later scenarios, so the order you play them in, and your actions in earlier ones, can have an impact on later missions.

To boost the half-RPG feel of the Stargrave system, the first scenario is actually a bar fight! With two players this has the potential to be a chaotic brawl, with each side having to split their force between opposite corners of the bar.

Outside the campaign there are two new background types for your captains and first mates, several new types of soldiers to fill your crew, new ship rules, new uncontrolled creatures, and new attributes, each expanding the game nicely.

These extra rules are nice, but the heart of this book is the campaign. It will require a bit more note taking than normal, including keeping a track of each players standing with the various factions, and the order and result of individual battles, as they can impact on the new one you pick, but this does make it more involving than the more normal sequence of unconnected battles. The individual scenarios are also interesting in their right, with some unusual rules that have the potential to have a big impact on the game.
