The United States Army 1812-1815, James L Kochan

The United States Army 1812-1815, James L Kochan

Men-at-Arms Series

This book concentrates on the regular troops of the United States Army during the War of 1812. After a brief look at the structure of the U.S. Army and its theoretical and actual strength during the war, the book focuses entirely on the uniform and equipment of the army. If you want a book that covers the events of the war, then this is not for you, but then that isn't really the point of this series.

On its own terms this is a very good book. As ever the text is supported by a number of well draw colour plates illustrating a well chosen range of the uniforms covered in the book and by a large number of photographs of surviving equipment from the period. Together they provide a very good basis for anyone looking to recreate or model these uniforms.
