Once you get past the introduction (which rather unfairly compares the P-40 to aircraft produced several years later), this book turns into a well illustrated, detailed guide to the technical development and production run of the P-36 and P-40 fighters, complete with the dates at which the different variants of the aircraft were produced. Don’t expect much detail on the combat record of the early P-40, but do expect a very good collection of photographs of both the P-37 and P-40. I was particularly impressed by the pictures of the Allison V-1710-33 engine, and the radiator intakes that gave the P-40 its distinctive appearance.
