The Germans produced some of the most famous weapons of the Second World War, from the Tiger tank to the battleship Tirpitz, along with some of the most advanced aircraft of the war. This book provides an overview of those weapons, covering everything from the basic pistol to the most advanced rockets and jet aircraft.
For most weapons we get a section on the development of the weapon, the technical details and its combat career. Each entry is supported by at least one full colour illustration or wartime photograph,
The focus is on those weapons that reached production (if not always getting into combat in any significant way), so we get the Bachem Ba 349 Natter, a rocket powered interceptor of which ten were built before the end of the war, but not the many increasingly fanciful rocket and jet powered aircraft or the more gigantic tanks that occupied the time of many of Germany’s best designers towards the end of the war.
There is good coverage of some of the support weapons - trucks and transport aircraft for instance - that kept the rest of the armed forces running (if not always terribly efficiently given the German reliance on horses for much of its transport).
This is a useful overview of the military technology of the Third Reich, providing enough information on each weapon to be interesting, while also covering an impressively wide range of topics.
