B-17 in Action, Larry Davis

B-17 in Action, Larry Davis

Squadron Signal 63

This is a good introduction to the development and history of the B-17 Flying Fortress, concentrating as always in this series of books on the development of the aircraft. We start with a brief history of Boeing, before moving on to look at the aircraft that led to the B-17, in particular the Model 247 passenger plane and the XB-15 bomber that was developed at the same time as the B-17.

As always in the Squadron Signal series this book is well illustrated, with an excellent collection of photographs, and some very good line drawing to help explain the differences between the various models of the B-17. As is so often the case in this series, the "in action" title applies to the pictures rather more than to the text.

This would be a very valuable book for anyone interesting in modeling the B-17.
