The Boxer Rebellion, Lynn Bodin

The Boxer Rebellion, Lynn Bodin

Men-at-arms

This is a brief but well illustrated account of the Boxer rebellion. It is an excellent introduction to an often forgotten conflict which has useful lessons for modern times. A fundamental uprising against the influence of foreign, mainly western influence leads to a brief conflict which involved small forces from a staggering amount of nations with US, Japanese, German, Russian and British forces fighting side by side. It is extremely well illustrated with many diagrams, maps and contemporary photographs which also proved fascinating. For wargamers it has over 20 colour plates of various uniforms from the colourful boxer troops and Chinese tiger men, to US marines, Russian sailors and Bengal lancers. If you are thinking of wargaming this conflict and several types of figure are now available or just interested in a long forgotten conflict made famous by the Hollywood film 55 days in Peking then this book is highly recommended. .
