The P-51K was a slightly improved version of the P-51D, produced at North American’s Dallas Texas plant. The main change from the P-51D was the use of a Aeroproducts un-cuffed hollow-bladed propeller in place of the Hamilton Standard propeller used on the P-51D. Otherwise the P-51K was essentially the same as the P-51D. 1,500 were built. From that total 594 were sent to the RAF, where they received the designation Mustang IVA, and another 163 were used for reconnaissance under the designation F-6K.
