North American Mustang II

Fifty P-51As were delivered to the RAF, partly to make up for a similar number of Mustang IAs taken by the USAAF after the outbreak of war. The new aircraft were given the designation Mustang Mk II. Like the P-51A, the Mustang II was armed with four .50in machine guns, two in each wings. It used the same reinforced wing as the A-36A, although without that aircraft’s dive breaks. The Mustang II was issued to two RAF squadrons, to replace Mustang Is and IAs.
