Battle of Falkirk, 22 July 1298
Battle between the Scots led by William Wallace and the English led by Edward I. Wallace's cavalry fled, leaving him to face the English with spearmen, who were unable to stand against the English archers. His defeat at Falkirk led to Wallace's loss of power in Scotland, although he remained at large for another seven years.
