Battle of Evesham, 4 August 1265
The battle of Evesham saw the end of the rebellion of Simon de Montfort. De Montfort had Henry III in his custody, but his son Prince Edward, the future Edward I was free. He raised an army and led it in an attempt to rescue his father. Edward's army met and defeated de Montfort's near Evesham. De Montfort was killed in the battle, and although his son held out for some time after the battle, his cause died with him.
