Side view of Consolidated XB-24N
Here we see the prototype XB-24N (serial number 44-48753), which introduced a single tail in place of the familiar twin tail of the B-24. Although the type was ordered into production, only the prototype and a small number of pre-production aircraft were actually completed. We can also see the Emerson ball turret in the nose, and the tail gunner's cabin, which replaced the full turrets used on earlier versions. A similar tail was used on the Navy's PB4Y-2 Privateer.
