Wrecked Pillbox at Brest

Wrecked Pillbox at Brest
Here we see American troops advancing across the wreckage of a pillbox outside Brest that had been destroyed by its German defenders to prevent it falling into enemy hands. This appears to be a genuine combat picture, with the photographer in cover and being ignored by the soldiers. Brest was besieged from 6 August-18 September 1944 before falling to the Americans with the port largely destroyed.
