Lt D.W. Gay's War Effort - Raids 39, 40 and 41

This page from Lt D.W. Gay's 'War Effort' covers part of raid 39, all of raid 40 and part of raid 41.

Raid 39 was an attack on the motor transport and mobile reserves of the 29th Panzer Division at Pradazzo to support the 8th Army. The attack was an 'apple' with most bombs hitting the target area.

Raid 40 was an attack on a motor transport pool and toop reserves carried out on 18 April 1945. The attack was judged to have been a 'good apple', despite heavy flak.

Raid 41 was an attack on troop concentrations and gun positions at Bagnarola in support of the 10th Indian Division (Gurkhas) of the 8th Army. The attack was judged to have been a success.

Many thanks to Martin Hampton, the son in law of Lt. Gay, for sending us this material. These pages come from Gay's own private notebook which began with similar infomation to his flight log, but became more detailed, and also included a number of interesting items that had been pasted in.
