Lt D.W. Gay's War Effort - Raid 16 and German Propaganda

This page from Lt D.W. Gay's 'War Effort' covers the details of raid 16 and includes part of 'Nachrichten aus der Heimat' volume 29 (News from Home), an Allied propaganda sheet dropped over the German lines in Italy.

Raid 16 was an attack on the marshalling yards at Coneglia on 19 February 1945. Gay's attack was a failure because smoke and fires caused by the first wave of bombers made it difficult to spot the targets, and almost caused a collision with the formation leader!

Many thanks to Martin Hampton, the son in law of Lt. Gay, for sending us this material. These pages come from Gay's own private notebook which began with similar infomation to his flight log, but became more detailed, and also included a number of interesting items that had been pasted in.
