Lt D.W. Gay's War Effort - Raids 15 and 16

This page from Lt D.W. Gay's 'War Effort' covers Raid 15 and the start of Raid 16 and also includes an extract from the 8th Army's German language newspaper (full details on next page).

Raid 15 was an attack on marshalling yards at Gorizia on 8 February 1945. There was a fighter escort and no flak, and the raid was rated as an 'Apple'

Raid 16 was an attack on the marshalling yards at Coneglia on 19 February 1945. Gay's attack was a failure because smoke and fires caused by the first wave of bombers made it difficult to spot the targets, and almost caused a collision with the formation leader!

Many thanks to Martin Hampton, the son in law of Lt. Gay, for sending us this material. These pages come from Gay's own private notebook which began with similar infomation to his flight log, but became more detailed, and also included a number of interesting items that had been pasted in.
