Von Schlieben after Surrender at Cherbourg
Here we see General Karl Wilhelm von Schlieben, the captured commander of the Cherbourg garrison, at the Allied Headquarters. General J Lawton Collins, commander of the US VII Corps, which carried out the attack, is on the right. Rear-Admiral Hennecke, naval commander of the Normandy defences, is on the left, with his cap in hand.
