Trenches near the River Svir, Karelian Front
Here we see Soviet troops advancing past trenches on the northern bank of the River Svir, during their succesful 1944 offensive. The Svir runs west from Lake Onega to Lake Lagoda, and was well to the south of the pre Winter War Finnish border. During the Continuation War the Finns advanced to the Svir, and past it for a short distance in some areas.
