Staghound Armoured Car in Damascus, 1945
Here we see a British Staghound armoured car passing along a narrow street in Damascus, during the crisis caused by France's attempt to retain control of the country in the aftermath of the Second World War. By the end of 1945 Syria had gained her legal independence, and early in 1946 the last French troops withdrew.
