Spitfire with Tail Raised

Spitfire with Tail Raised
Here we see an early model of Spitfire (identified by the exhaust) with its tail raised during servicing. This gives us a good view of the undercarriage, one of the aircraft's weak points. The wheels retracted outwards into the wings (note the cover on the inside of each wheel), giving it a narrow wheel base that made it rather difficult to land.
