Spink & Son Jutland Memorial Medal - Front

Here we see the front of a commemorative medal for the battle of Jutland struck by Spink & Son to a design by Prince Louis of Battenberg, the First Sea Lord at the outbreak of the First World War. Anti-German agitation forced him to resign soon after the outbreak of war, and he became something of an expert on naval medals. The text around the edge of the front of the medal reads 'To the glorious memory of those who fell that day. Proceeds from the sales of the medal went to naval orphanages.

Many thanks to Antony Wooton for sending us the pictures of this medal.
