Major W G Barker' Sopwith F.1 Camel in Flight

Here we see the leading ace Major W G Barker, DSO, MC, in flight in a Sopwith F.1 Camel of No.28 Squadron on the Italian front. Barker was in temporary command of the squadron when it moved to Italy in November 1917, but moved to No.66 Squadron in the spring of 1918 after his tendancy to carry out unofficial patrols meant he was passed over for full command of No.28. This is almost certainly Camel B6313, in which he scored 46 victories, making it the most succesful individual fighter in RAF history.
