Trucks using Sommerfeld Track, Bayeux
Here we see a column of trucks advancing along a road near Bayeux, covered in Sommerfeld tracking, a flexible metal mat developed by Kurt Sommerfeld, an exiled German engineer working in Britain. It could be rolled out to form a firm surface, and was normally used to quickly create runways for new airfields. However this picture shows that it could also be used as a normal road.
