Sigiriya Rock from the south

This picture shows Sigiriya Rock, at the centre of one of the most important ancient cities on Sri Lanka. In the fifth century a palace was built on top of the rock, and this was followed by a Bhuddist temple. This picture is taken from the south, across the water tank that feeds the impressive formal gardens.

Many thanks to Ken Creed for sending us these pictures, which were taken by his wife's uncle Terry Ruff during his time with No.357 Squadron, a special operations unit that operated over Burma, Malaya and Sumatra.
