Sherman in Sant' Angelo, Fourth Battle of Cassino

Sherman in Sant' Angelo, Fourth Battle of Cassino
Here we see a Sherman tank in the ruins of Sant' Angelo, on the west bank of the Rapido River, after it was captured by Gurkhas during the Fourth battle of Cassino. This stretch of the Rapido is perhaps more correctly known as the Gari, but most English language accounts of the battle call it the Rapido, and the disasterous American attempt to capture the town earlier in 1944 is known as the battle of the Rapido.
