Sendai Class Cruiser from the right
Here we see a Sendai class cruiser, one of three constructed in 1922-25. They were the last traditional light cruisers to be ordered for over a decade, as the Japanese Navy began to concentrate on heavier ships to make up for their numerical inferiority. The Sendai class crusiers differed from earlier Japanese light cruisers in having four funnels instead of three, but they retained the small superstructure and tripod masts.
