Savoia-Marchetti SM.83 I-ASSO

Here we see a Savoia Marchetti SM.83 A, a civilian version of the SM.79 bomber. Over a thousand of the bomber version were produced, but only 23 of the civilian version, which could only take ten passengers, and was thus less economical than the earlier SM.73, which could take eighteen passengers. The SM.83 was a typical example of the company's three engined aircraft, which formed a major part of the Italian bomber and transport fleets during the Second World War.
